Funny Matty Should Mention Palpatine. . .

. . . because I just don't trust the new pope.

Benedict XVI is no John Paul II, though they share similar backgrounds of oppression at the hands of Fascism and Communism.

Joining the HJ, whether you were "forced" or not, opens you up to all kinds of brainwashing. Personally, I don't believe he was "forced". I think he joined up willingly, like an American or British kid would have joined the Boy Scouts.

He defected from the German Army, which isn't unbelievable, nor does it make me trust him any more. A lot of young men with visions of "glory" defect or go AWOL from all armed services once they discover that war is Hell itself.

I just don't trust the man. I'm not sure what it is, but I'm going with my gut on this one and taking it as a sign that the Church and I will part ways officially before long. This isn't to say that certain aspects will no longer be meaningful to me in my life, just that I feel uneasy about this decision.

Maybe it's still too early to tell, but I have a BAD feeling about this.

Black Smoke

On Day 2 of the Conclave, we still have black smoke.

Finding a new pontiff is tough work, especially with such a hard act to follow.

JP II left some pretty big shoes to fill.

Recquiescat in Pacem

You may or may not have heard, but the man who has been Pope since I was born died earlier today. . . although, with crossing the Prime Meridian, I'm not sure of the time difference, so it may be Sunday in Italy by now. But that's beside the point.

The Western World is mourning in their own ways tonight.

As an example of the impact his life and good works have had on our world, I'd like to mention that Fidel Castro, the dictator of Cuba, and a confirmed atheist, has declared a period of mourning for His Holiness.

We should all live so well.
