It's Warmer in the 9th Circle

Frigid temperatures FUBAR-ed the train I would normally have taken before I got my car. I heard the news as I was driving to work amidst the "human stupidity delays" on the Pike.

There are days when I try to figure out which are worse, train delays or traffic delays, but not today. At least the traffic was moving and my car was nice and warm.

I Blame Crow

It's the Georgia 'Little Miss Sex Offender' Pageant

I am not making this up.

Know What?

The United Nations has officially designated this year, 2005, as the International Year of Physics.

We're celebrating two important years in physics this year; both having to do with Albert Einstein.

Curious? Check out the World Year of Physics Website.

What Have I Learned Today?

Today, I learned the lyrics to Hail to the Chief, which is that "jaunty" little ditty that you hear played when US presidents enter the room at an official event. . . like the inauguration yesterday.

Thank you Slate for the following transcription of the official lyrics:

Hail to the Chief we have chosen for the nation,
Hail to the Chief! We salute him, one and all.
Hail to the Chief, as we pledge co-operation
In proud fulfillment of a great, noble call.

Yours is the aim to make this grand country grander,
This you will do, That's our strong, firm belief.
Hail to the one we selected as commander,
Hail to the President! Hail to the Chief!

So now you know too.

What Do You Read?

Words. Words. Words.

Words of the year, as presented by the American Dialect Society, an organization which studies language in the Americas.

And you thought people who cared about language were lame.

The Year In Review

Best. Comment. Today.

"I'm no creature of politics, but the Fellini-esque quality of the freak show that is our electoral process was worth twice the price of admission; I only thank God that it was free. If this happens again four years from now, I for one am moving—but just down the street, so I'll have a better view." - Neil LaBute in Slate

In other news I have made my New Year's Resolution to lose 10% of my body weight over the next 12 weeks. And keep it off.

And I will be doing the Avon Walk again this October 1 & 2. Please e-mail me if you're interested in participating, either as a walker, crew member, volunteer or sponsor.
